Pool Pump & Heating Upgrades – Noosa, Qld
Project Overview

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council engaged The Solar Guys to perform an energy audit on their Noosa Aquatic Centre facility with the view to reducing its high power consumption.
A major focus of the audit was to provide the council not just with a summary of the problems but also a list of fully costed solutions for all areas of concern.
A range of recommendations were outlined in the final report including installation of advanced solar pool heating collectors to support and complement the existing heat pumps and retrofit of the latest variable speed drive technology to the existing circulation pumps.
Further energy efficiency recommendations to be acted on include high performance LED flood lighting and a commercial solar hot water system.
Solar Pool Heating

VSD retrofitted to existing pump
Forty (40) SolarTherm pool heating collectors were installed in banks of five onto the roof of the main building to supplement the heating requirement of the Learn To Swim pool. By reducing the heating load on the existing commercial heat pump, power savings equivalent to ten average home’s daily use can be realised per hour.
Variable Speed Drives (VSD)
The very latest and most highly reliable VSDs from Europe were used to provide a speed control system via direct motor mounting for the existing 15kW pool circulation pumps. The installation features flow meters to provide the VSDs with feedback to intelligently control the system and adapt the pump performance according to their programmed operating parameters.
