5kW SolarEdge – Yamanto, Qld
Project Overview
This residential customer already had a 1kW Sharp solar power system that had been installed for several years. Unfortunately it was badly underperforming leaving the customer interested in upgrading their system but not being sure how best to do so.
The Solar Guys offered an innovative solution using the SolarEdge inverter system that features module-by-module management. With SolarEdge adjacent modules are effectively ‘isolated’ from each other by PowerBoxes allowing different makes and models of modules to be connected to a single inverter.
SE5000 replaced a 1kW inverter
The existing non-expandable inverter was replaced with a new 5kW SolarEdge inverter. PowerBoxes were installed behind each of the existing 180W Sharp modules and behind brand new 215W Kyocera modules to deliver a high performance 5kW system. It’s estimated that using the SolarEdge system will increase the performance of the existing Sharp modules by 10%.
Via module-level data logging and reporting the customer can also take proactively correct any issues affecting system performance plus have peace of mind that they can actually take advantage of their long module warranties if necessary.
Solar Energy
The 5kW photovoltaic system was installed flush-mount onto a 20° pitch decromastic tile roof. The array is made up of 19 x Kyocera Solar KD215GH (215W) modules plus 6 x 180W Sharp modules matched to a SolarEdge SE5000 single-phase inverter.
