Sunshine Coast Stadium 30kW – Kawana, Qld
Project Overview

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has built a new grandstand at Kawana with significant environmentally sustainable design (ESD) initiatives.
A key aspect of the project was installation of a 30kW solar power system on the roof to take advantage of the Queensland Governement’s Solar Bonus Scheme feed-in tariff. Requirements for this scheme included three-phase installation and no more than 30,000W of installed solar capacity.

Through a competitive tender process The Solar Guys were selected to install the system to meet the architects’ requirements including flush mounted install onto sandwich metal roofing. This was done using the latest framing system from Swiss manufacturer Montavent.
The system will feature a kiosk display in the foyer of the grandstand with readouts of the system’s power production and details of the other ESD initiatives.
Solar Energy
The 30kW photovoltaic system was installed flush-mount onto the 5° west facing. The array is made up of 127 x Kyocera Solar KD235GH (235W) modules matched to 2 x SMA Sunny TriPower 15000TL (15.0kW) three-phase inverters.
A comprehensive weather station featuring wind, ambient temperature and irradiance sensors are matched to a monitoring system to capture the system’s power production information for display onto a 52” LED LCD display.
