Case Study: Rochedale Landfill

Project Overview

The Brisbane City Council with Brisbane Waste Innovations Alliance partner Thiess Services engaged The Solar Guys to design, supply and install a 35kW solar power system at their Rochedale Landfill facility.

Two buildings were identified for the project with 31kW on the main building and 4kW on a smaller building. 

A key innovation of the installation was the use of the latest, most environmentally friendly photovoltaic framing system from Swiss manufacturer Montavent. This is the largest Montavent installation in Australia to date.

Case Study: Mackay TAFE

Project Overview

The Queensland Governmentʼs Q Build group called for tenders to install a 50kW solar power system onto a TAFE building in Mackay.

Working with ESCO, The Solar Guys were successful and managed to complete the entire project in just three weeks including a complete weather sensor station and datalogging system.

Case Study: Queensland Government Building Maroochydore

The Queensland Governmentʼs Project Services group has engaged Hutchinson Builders to construct a new office building in Maroochydore. The project has a strong focus on environmental performance.

A Five Star Green Star rating has been achieved at the design stage with Six Star Green Star rating now a possibility. 

The Solar Guys have been awarded the project to design, supply and install a 60kW grid-connected solar power system on the roof of the building to offset the buildingʼs electricity consumption.

Case Study: Nursery Traders, Capalaba Qld

Nursery Traders is an innovative wholesale landscape supply company servicing Australiaʼs retail nursery, landscaping and development industries through a direct supply service and cash ‘n carry trade market. 

Nursery Traders engaged The Solar Guys to undertake a savings projection for the installation of a large solar power system, which led to The Solar Guys designing, supplying and installing a complete 48kW grid- connected photovoltaic system. Case Study: Somerville House School

Solar Power 12kW – South Brisbane, Qld

Project Overview

Somerville House school solar panels
Somerville House girls school in South Brisbane built a new Junior Boarding House in late 2009 that was opened in early 2010.

A key aspect of the project was installation of a 12kW solar power system on the roof to take advantage of the Federal Governement’s National Solar Schools program. Requirements for this program included a comprehensive data logging system capable of transmitting hour by hour power production information to a web portal.

Case Study: Sunshine Coast Stadium

Sunshine Coast Stadium 30kW – Kawana, Qld

Project Overview

Kawana Solar
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has built a new grandstand at Kawana with significant environmentally sustainable design (ESD) initiatives.

A key aspect of the project was installation of a 30kW solar power system on the roof to take advantage of the Queensland Governement’s Solar Bonus Scheme feed-in tariff. Requirements for this scheme included three-phase installation and no more than 30,000W of installed solar capacity.
